Here at Baggage Freedom we want you to have the best experience possible camping the West Highland Way! Here you will find some information and tips that you will need to achieve this.
- You will find that many stops along the way will have places to find food and drink, meaning you don’t need to take so much food with you.
- Milngavie, Drymen, Balmaha, Crianlarich, Tyndrum, Kinlochleven and Fort William all have shops and pubs/Hotel restaurants where you can easily find food and drinks. The most remote section is between Tyndrum and Kinlochleven but you can easily find food at Bridge of Orchy Hotel / Glencoe Mountain Resort Cafe and Kingshouse Hotel Pub/Bar.
- The most difficult section on the whole route is between Rowardennan and Inverarnan. We Highly recommend setting off nice and early this day to help you negotiate the terrain. This section can also be dangerously slippery when wet so be extra careful with footing.
- Please note: not many places will accept your bags to be dropped off with them if you don’t have a booking with them so please make sure you book your pitches in advance.
- The places camping friendly for bag drops are (obviously) all the campsites + Rowardennan Youth Hostel (They have 10 pitches available on a first come first serve basis) / Bridge of Orchy Hotel (you can wild camp at bridge) / Inveroroan Maurices cottage (you can wild camp at bridge).
- At Rowardennan Youth Hostel they have 10 pitches available at a first come first serve basis. If they are full then you can wild camp outside the no camping zone approx 1mile north.
- You wont be able to have your bags dropped off anywhere else unless you have booked with them.
- Ther are various routes that you can take depending on fitness levels.
- Starting point is Milngavie Town Centre just a short walk from the Baggage Freedom drop off point at Milngavie train station car park between 8-9am each morning.
